Bump of Chicken – R.I.P.
* time to get back to what I do best. Let’s discuss possible interpretations of the song in the comments. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
the fact that you weren’t in mine, and I wasn’t in yours
just pondering this obvious truth, makes me feel so…
the sound of the dynamo, the rolling hill,
the gear I wished I was in that someone nudged me into
coming back from catching crawfish, a mysterious searchlight
looking for the source, I lost my way and night fell.
there was so much wonder it made me forget
but all those little spells have worn off now.
I hated those galoshes, but loved umbrellas,
put a bunch together and voilà, a secret fort.
at the bicycle parking, I went to visit my secret friend who had a tail.
there were more things I couldn’t bring myself to say back then
but it’s not because I lost them that I feel so lonely.
the fact that you weren’t in mine,
that far off day when we wouldn’t understand each other any more.
just pondering this obvious truth, makes the world around me go blurry.
I faked a high temperature to get out of school early,
I remember how the light fell on the foot lockers, with a single sigh
on the morning of mother’s day, a shovel in hand,
my father and I dug a grave for my friend with a tail.
these sad things became treasures to me
I’m sure you have so many as well.
The fact that I wasn’t in yours, but here I am with you now
just pondering this obvious truth, sets the whole world aglow
If we can just see the same things, that’s all I need
even if we feel things differently, I’m fine with that
if we’re going to continue to change, I want to see it all together
and if one day you won’t be with me then, I want to know you were once there.
there were others who wanted to be here with you, but for now it’s me.
just pondering this obvious truth, makes me so scared I can’t sleep.
the fact that you weren’t in mine, and i wasn’t in yours
just pondering this obvious truth
makes me feel so attached, and so afraid.
(rest in peace)
under the advertising balloon, the TV hero on the roof of the department store
the polluted city air, the hand that pulled me along, in my baseball cap
i thought I was the happiest person on earth, I wish you could have seen me.
