Party Pooper
It’s a historic day. America has chosen change. We have elected our first black president. We have elected Senator Barack Obama.
It’s not a time to be cynical, but what was with that acceptance speech? What a downer!
I almost miss the empty promises of just about every other president elect which at least belied a genuine confidence in the end game. There is a big difference between the words “hopeful” and “confident,” and in an attempt to be real with the American people our president elect appeared, for a moment, to lose the absolute optimism that he rode to the white house. Hopeful is not a word you use to assure someone that you have a solution for their country, it is a word you use when things seem their most hopeless. It is the language of doctors who are attempting to remove terminal brain cancer, of a stock analyst in modern America looking down the barrel of a recession.
I would be more lenient on the good Senator (he’s not president yet!) but he preceded this sourpussing with a string of strongly worded warnings and conditionals that prophecied a long hard road out of hell.
Then again, he did promise we’d get there. Someday.
YES WE CAN!
(ed’s note: boo, this is too fucking cynical. You need to just roll with it. This is the age of Aquarius!)
