IWP is your Pony Alternative

Time to stop watching the new season of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and catch up on IWP from May through July.
It was the Baye best of times, it was the worst of times.

You may now return to Equestria.

At last the new TV Season is here and the networks are literally dying to win back audiences to their comfortable low channel numbers. So what have they got for us? Dinosaurs. Overly Serious Crime Procedurals at least one of which could be called CSI: Fairytale Forest. Extensions of popular franchises. And of course following deodorant trends, every show must be clearly marketed to dude or chick demographics. I remain steadfastly asexual in this regard.
The first batch of shows I saw are definitely skewing toward the chick side.
Clearly the best thing I will watch this year is Fox’s New Girl.

Not only does it have the adorable She of She & Him in the lead but it’s got Deputy Leo from Veronica Mars in it!
I’m tired of yelling at people. You want to know why what George Lucas is doing to the original Star Wars trilogy is un-fucking-acceptable? I give up. Here.

Imagine telling someone you admire the Mona Lisa and this is what they see.
It’s just a movie, Brian! Sure, it’s just a movie that was adored by millions everywhere and was part of our shared cultural heritage on this planet earth. On that note the Mona Lisa is just a painting and the Bible is just a book. A good book… but a book nonetheless.
On a side note Mona Snooki is kinda smokin’.
As promised here are the airtimes for my Interviews: With People Half Hour Special interviews: with people; perfection in one year – a celebration of the best. I’m sorry that it’s not available outside New Jersey… yet. Give me a year?
(please forgive the video quality – the source I used was compressed multiple times and not deinterlaced. I assure you what airs will be top tier.)
In order to watch this historic event you must be a Cablevision subscriber in the New Jersey area.Or Matamoras, PA for some reason. Please watch and support my campaign to bring the surreal and silly back to cable TV.

These words are lyrics from a PIERROT song called REBIRTH DAY and they perfectly sum up the bizarre feelings I had while watching America suffer due to the events of September 11th, 2001. I wasn’t in the United States when the attacks on the Twin Towers went down. At that time, I was teaching English in Japan. I didn’t even hear about the attacks until Joe Holley sent me an email. I remember turning on the TV and of course that first image of one flaming tower was striking but as soon as we learned a second plane had hit… well,
terror accomplished.
My first instinct was one of preservation. I’m from the east coast and my family were living in New England at the time, so I feared for their safety. I felt so helpless viewing it all from the opposite side of the globe. Once it became clear that the attacks were over and that my family was safe. There was an eerie calm.
I didn’t know how to feel and I wanted someone to tell me desperately.
We went for a stroll with Maya and it turned into one of the most adorkable videos I’ve ever cut. I used to love this Amuro Namie song when I was a younger man… but it was always missing something. Suffice to say, I’ve fixed it with the addition of Maya.

This will be fantastic material to embarrass her with when she’s twenty.
Your life isn’t complete… but it could be. My childhood friend, Derek Mayhew, has that thing you need. You may not have known that you need it but trust me you do. Wood solves and heals all. Derek’s always been artistically inclined but I never saw much of his work outside of some carpentry work he did building a bar and a dragon he painted when we were teens. That all changed today when he sent me the link to his new website for his Turned Wood Sculpture.
I am awestruck.
That is way better than a dragon. If you know of anyone carrying around heavy money bags that they’d like to lighten, these beauts are a steal at hundreds of dollars. Seriously, tell the people whose feet you are the stool of, like I’m doing.
My friend Megan Crispini recently started a flickr page for her photographs

I know the temptation is to be a jaded asshole and say, “I’ve seen enough pretty pictures, thank you,” but I like Megan’s compositions and her excitement behind the camera translates into her work. I especially like the above photo. It’s like the beautiful blue sky is locked in the reflection.
