I watched the Britney Spears documentary, Britney: For the Record, on MTV and I would recommend it as required viewing for anyone studying 21st century media. We all know the Papparazzi are out of control but damn, when you see the hordes of foul-mouthed demons that hound this diminuitive girl, it’s eye-opening. It’s easy to see someone breaking under that constant stress (as if being the pillar of a media empire wasn’t stress enough.)
Britney herself is such a lovable goof ball and through out she reminded me of Eminem with all the impromptu accents and impressions. It’s like fame has made these people like the bubble boy and they need to invent secret worlds to play in due to the constraints of their environments. What the lens sees as insane may just be the adaptive measures that people take to maintain their sense of control over their world.
No wonder Em left the spotlight behind for the last couple years. It’ll be interesting to see how he integrates back into this crazy celebrity obsessed world and if he has anything to say about it.
